I WANT this piece of legislation to work..that's my preface. However, the insurance industry has their claws in it and I am reporting here on an email I received from BCBS forwarded by the CNY Business Journal...I will be happy to forward the actual email or post it on my Facebook page for anyone to read.
Bottom line:
The title was, Read this before signing up for the Affordable Care Act
Within the email, per BCBS which is also within many exchanges, they state as a bullet point: If you sign up on a health care exchange, you will have less options.
Below this, the bullet point says that you may get better rates if you sign up with their plans that they PDF in this email, than the exchanges.
Essentially, they are attempting to undercut the ACA..
I will say that when I checked out a plan that had no coinsurance and lower deductibles, it was quoted at the lowest cost in the $1600+ range, way more than I've ever spent. I'm in a crappy, high deductible, high coinsurance BCBS plan right now in the $900+ range. I am so tired of rising premiums, getting less for your money, higher Rx costs, etc.
I am a fan of single payer, as long as the public starts to take better care of itself (obesity, smoking, diabetes control, etc) than this insurance industrial complex driven public OR private crappy system. Why did ACA not allow out of network coverage? Really bad for many people...dentistry for adults as well as dental pre-existing conditions was also left hung out to dry....
I WANT this to work..it's just so badly written in m any areas..sure, there are many good additions, but this bill needs some major amending to make it more progressive.
This BCBS small business solicitation above I mentioned is horrendous.
